Motorists will be able to save precious minutes in emergency situations as Peugeot’s award winning Peugeot Connect SOS system is rolled out across a wider range of models.

The system, positioned within the dashboard, uses an in-built SIM card, phone and satellite navigation device to provide immediate assistance in the event of an accident by locating the vehicle and establishing a telephone connection with the emergency services.

Connect SOS can be activated manually by pressing the emergency button for three seconds, or will operate automatically when airbags are triggered. With an automatic call, should no-one in the vehicle respond to the operator at the dedicated call centre, the emergency services are immediately dispatched to the vehicle.

Currently standard on SR versions of 3008, 5008 & 508 and optional on other models of 308, 3008, 5008 and 508, Connect SOS is set to have increased availability across further popular models such as the RCZ, the new 208 and Peugeot’s extensive van range.

Speaking about the system, Product and pricing manager, Mark Blundell, said: “In an emergency every second counts, whether motorists have witnessed a collision incident or are the victim of an accident themselves. Having this device equipped could mean the difference between life and death.”

A survey by the European commission revealed that if all vehicles in Europe were equipped with an emergency call system, 2,500 more lives a year would be saved. Across Europe more than 650,000 Peugeot vehicles are equipped with Peugeot Connect SOS and 5,300 emergency alerts have been managed.

In 2010, the Peugeot Connect SOS received the Euro NCAP Advanced award, which honours innovative equipment developed for the improvement of safety.

Mark added: “The Euro NCAP award for Peugeot Connect SOS provides an independent benchmark, demonstrating the importance we place in the protection of our customers and that of other road users.”
