Performance Wheels presents the Fondmetal 9RR

Wheel maestro Fondmetal has been at the very top of the premium OEM and motorsport wheel market for an impressive four decades now. To celebrate 40 years of producing the finest wheels, the Italian firm has designed a stunning new lightweight and heat-treated rim named the 9RR.

The 9RR draws down heavily from Fondmetal’s enviable race heritage and uses the very latest production and finishing techniques to create a wheel that balances exceptional strength with truly light weight.

The design features seven split spokes. This is no mere accident of design. It was the number that was carefully calculated and optimised, after extensive CAD simulation, to give the ideal balance between integrity and lightness. As well as continuous fatigue testing, the new wheel was also subjected to Finite Element Analysis (FEM) to ensure that areas of maximum stress were suitably reinforced, whilst structural rigidity was enhanced and negative resonant frequencies were eliminated.

Precision cast from primary aluminium as a one-piece wheel, via Fondmetal’s unique low pressure casting process, each wheel is then subjected to T6 heat treatment, before being painted in a choice of either Silver or ‘Nero’ high-quality finishes. Naturally, each wheel has also been fully TUV tested and approved.

Although the 9RR makes a compelling case for itself on aesthetics alone, a quick glance at the weights of each size reveals the magnitude of the engineering behind it. The 7x 17” size weighs just 7.45 kg, whereas even the enormous 11 x 20” fitment tips the scales at a scant 12.25 kg. In all, nine different sizes are available in a variety of widths and 17, 18, 19 and 20” diameters.
