New homes in Warwickshire look set to be built by safe hands for years to come following a successful bricklaying competition, with the winners receiving prizes from Taylor Wimpey.

Taylor Wimpey West Midlands is helping the next generation of bricklayers build up their skills – by sponsoring the Guild of Bricklayers West Midlands Craft Competition.

The competition, which was held at Stratford-upon-Avon College on Thursday 19th April, saw student bricklayers who are working towards their NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying compete for a coveted place in the Guild of Bricklayers National Final on 20th June.

The winners were rewarded with toolkits, hats and fleeces donated by Taylor Wimpey West Midlands, which is building two new developments of new build homes in Stratford-upon-Avon – The Hathaways and Poppy Meadow.

Alan McDermott, brickwork lecturer at the College, explains: “This year the college has successfully secured the West Midlands Regional Competition for the Guild of Bricklayers and this has attracted various colleges from across the region to compete.

“It’s excellent that Taylor Wimpey is one of the event sponsors and I would like to thank Lloyd Green, production manager for Taylor Wimpey, for supporting the College with this competition. I look forward to working in close partnership with Taylor Wimpey in the future.

“The generous prizes donated by Taylor Wimpey will be a real help to the winning students who all want to go into bricklaying at the end of their course.”

Students from the College visited The Hathaways last year to learn more about building processes and health and safety and will visit Poppy Meadow later this year.

Jan Titley, Regional Sales and Marketing Director, adds: “At Taylor Wimpey we understand how important it is to help students gain a wider understanding of the house-building industry – it make it easier for them to find jobs at the end of their courses and makes them better employees too.

“We take pride in ensuring the homes we are building are of the highest quality, so we are only too delighted to be further strengthening our links with Stratford-upon-Avon College and are looking forward to meeting the building stars of the future at the awards ceremony.”

The Hathaways is an exclusive collection of two, three and four-bedroom homes just off Bishopton Lane, near The Avenue in Stratford, while Poppy Meadow, located off Kipling Road on the southern fringes of the town, offers a stunning collection of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties.

Both developments are only a short drive from the A46 for quick links to Leamington, Coventry and the M40 for London and Birmingham. Regular, direct rail services operate from Stratford station to London Marylebone and Birmingham Snow Hill, while Birmingham International Airport is a little over 25 miles away.

Home-hunters can visit The Hathaways Sales and Marketing Suite, located off Bishopton Lane, Stratford, CV37 0RJ, and open Thursday to Monday between 10am and 5pm.

Alternatively, property-seekers hoping to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities at Poppy Meadow should visit the Sales and Marketing Suite, located off Kipling Road, Stratford-upon-Avon, CV37 7JZ, and open Thursday to Monday between 10am and 5pm.
