Legendary stand-up and TV comedian Michael McIntyre is to give an intimate one-night only performance at His Majesty's Theatre in Aberdeen, ahead of his major autumn arena tour.

Famed for his trademark skipping, cheeky grin and amiable delivery, the award-winning funnyman behind Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow and a regular Live at the Apollo host will perform his solo show at the city centre theatre on Saturday, August 4.

"This is a huge coup for us," said Aberdeen Performing Arts press manager Joyce Summers.

"Michael McIntyre is famed for his arena performances, but Aberdeen fans are going to get the rare chance to hear his new material first, and in the really intimate setting of His Majesty's Theatre. What more could laughter fans ask for?

"This is one of a handful of warm up dates he is doing prior to his arena tour and is considered a 'work in progress'.

"We expect this show to be the hottest ticket in town when they go on sale tomorrow."

Michael's big break came at the Royal Variety Performance in 2006 and his debut DVD, Live and Laughing, was the fastest selling of all time in 2008, only to be eclipsed by his second, Hello Wembley, which sold more than 1.4 million copies and was the 2009 Christmas number one.

He hosts his own BAFTA nominated BBC 1 series, Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, and has won British Comedy Awards for Best Live Stand-up in 2009 and Best Male TV Comic in 2010.

In 2010 he became the youngest ever host of The Royal Variety Performance and released his bestselling autobiography, Life and Laughing.

Last year, Michael was a judge on the hit ITV1 show Britain's Got Talent and also hosted Michael McIntyre's Christmas Comedy Roadshow on BBC1 Christmas Day which was watched by more than eight million viewers.

Other television credits include Top Gear, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Have I Got News For You, 8/10 Cats, Mock The Week, Paul O'Grady Live, Alan Carr Chatty Man, Channel Four Comedy Gala, Help The Heroes Concert, Chris Moyles Quiz Night, The Graham Norton Show, The One Show, We Are Most Amused, Let's Dance for Comic Relief, The Charlotte Church Show, Comedy Live Presents and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Store Special.

This autumn's tour is only his second nationwide tour and includes arena gigs in Cardiff, Nottingham, Birmingham, Sheffield, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, Dublin and Liverpool as well as the O2 and Wembley in London.
