Bloor Homes highlights; a newly built four bedroom house at its Ampthill Heights development in Ampthill, Bedfordshire could save home-owners over £1300 a year in gas and electricity costs according a new report by the NHBC Foundation and Zero Carbon Hub.

Comparing the indicative energy consumption of today’s ‘upgraded’ Victorian homes against new homes built to 2010 requirements; it concludes the following annual savings could be made:

A 4-bed detached new home could be 55% cheaper to run (saving £1,312)
A 3-bed end terrace could be 52% cheaper to run (saving £840)
A 3-bed mid terrace could be 46% cheaper to run (saving £642)

Vanessa Macnee, Sales Director at Bloor Homes, comments: “With energy bills rocketing each year, it is no wonder new builds are an attractive option, saving the homeowner over half in annual bills that would have been spent on running an older property.

At Ampthill Heights, we have a range of energy efficient properties available that could save homeowners hundreds of pounds each year. The Hammond, priced at £394,950, has received an ‘A’ grade in energy efficiency, and a grade ‘C’ in its environmental impact (CO2). As a four bedroomed family home, the property provides enviable space and luxury that coincides with the energy efficient survey.”

Ampthill is a market town in the heart of rural Bedfordshire. Surrounded by open, wooded countryside and picturesque villages, the town offers a good range of shops, restaurants and public houses. There are also good leisure facilities for all of the family to enjoy, including Kempston Swimming Pool, Milbrook Golf Club and Ampthill Park which has 160 acres of parkland and woodland.

For commuters, nearby Flitwick and Milbrook railway stations offer good rail links to Bedford, Milton Keynes and London St Pancras. There are also bus services from Ampthill to Milton Keynes and Bedford, whilst by road the M1 and A6 offer good access to both of these two cities as well as Northampton and Rugby in the North and Luton, St Albans and Watford in the South.
