Performance network offers publishers ePrivacy compliance with new plug-in

2nd June 2012 Print

Affiliate Window announces the release of its latest development, a cookie management solution for publishers. The Affiliate Window ePrivacy plug-in is freely available to all network publishers and has been created to comply with the revised European ePrivacy Directive by allowing website users to manage their own privacy settings.

The ePrivacy Directive requires all website owners to clearly offer options for their visitors to control how cookies are used. One of the key challenges facing publishers is understanding what they need to do to achieve compliance, without impacting revenues.

Affiliate Window’s solution provides publishers with a simple way to notify their users about cookies and gain their consent, either implied or explicitly. Designed to appeal to a broad range of publishers, the tool is a simple website plug-in that can be installed within minutes.

Peter Loveday, Chief Technology Officer for Affiliate Window: “When faced with the challenge of providing a technical solution for our publishers we knew that it had to be something that reached beyond our own interests. The tool is designed to be configured and extended, meaning it can be a total privacy solution for publishers.”

Affiliate Window decided to choose a layered ‘dashboard’ approach, whereby consumers have the opportunity to learn more about how they’re tracked online in a clear and unobtrusive way. There are no opt-in or opt-out tick boxes, rather a focus on informing consumers about the cookies used on any given website, achieving the dual goal of informing while minimising potential lost revenue.

The technology is offered as a general privacy solution, whereby it can be easily extended by the publisher to manage all features of their site that rely on cookies, not just Affiliate Window’s.
