Wimbledon 2012 on the BBC - on more platforms than ever before
The BBC will bring all the action from the 126th Wimbledon Championships to audiences from Monday 25 June – Sunday 8 July.
Sue Barker presents the BBC’s daily television coverage on BBC One, BBC One HD, BBC Two and the BBC HD Channel, with this year’s programming starting at 11.30am for the first seven days (Mon-Mon) to accommodate the earlier start of play on outside courts. John Inverdale presents Today At Wimbledon on BBC Two and HD from 8.00pm each weekday.
The BBC’s television team features a host of top names including: John McEnroe, Boris Becker, Tim Henman, Lindsay Davenport, Pat Cash, John Lloyd, Greg Rusedski, Andrew Castle, Tracy Austin, Virginia Wade, Mark Petchey, David Mercer, Barry Davies, Mark Cox, Simon Reed, Chris Bradnam, Matt Chilton, Liz Smylie, Sam Smith, Jason Goodall, Andrew Cotter, Jo Durie, Paul Hand, Ronald McIntosh, Nick Mullins and Louise Pleming. The reporters onsite are Garry Richardson, Rishi Persad, Sonali Shah and Phil Jones.
The BBC will continue its two year trial experimenting with 3D production and broadcast, with full re-runs of the Men’s Singles semi-finals in 3D (one on Sat 7 July and one on Sun 8 July), and selective live coverage of the 2012 Ladies’ (Sat 7 July) and Men’s (Sun 8 July) Singles finals in 3D - free to air - on the BBC HD Channel.
Viewers will be able to watch the entire Championships via the BBC Sport website with up to six live match streams. As well as news, interviews, live text commentaries and video highlights, the website will also run columns from Andy Murray after each of the British No.1’s matches.
And this year, for the first time the new BBC Sport app for connected TVs will give audiences access to the BBC’s interactive coverage during the Championship, including live and on-demand content. Viewers with mobile and tablets will also be able to watch the action on the go, as for the first time they will have access to live feeds from the courts, as well as highlights clips, features and interviews.
The BBC Red Button will offer an alternative match on Freeview, up to four streams on Satellite, Cable and Freesat, plus a highlights service and replays of Today At Wimbledon.
Two full matches every day of the tournament will be offered on the BBC iPlayer plus Today At Wimbledon with John Inverdale.
There will also be extensive coverage on BBC Radio 5 live and 5 live sports extra throughout the two weeks. The 1996 Men’s Singles Champion Richard Krajicek joins the 5 live team for 2012 and other pundits include Pat Cash, Jana Novotna and Nick Bollettieri.
