BMW Ireland Dealer Network Technicians receive Awards of Recognition in record time
Twenty-two technicians from the BMW Ireland Dealer Network recently received their awards in recognition of achieving "Senior Technician" status at the BMW UK Group Academy near Reading, England.This significant milestone was achieved in a record 18 months, a course that is normally achieved only over a four-year period. The award criteria included gruelling theory and practical tests during the entire programme, culminating in a full day's practical exam. The addition of 22 Senior Technicians, who are automatically accredited with ATA status (Automotive Technician Accreditation), doubles the number of officially accredited technicians within the Irish automotive sector.
The ATA is a voluntary assessment programme for technicians working in the retail motor industry. It has the backing of many of the major vehicle manufacturers, as well as independent service organisations and Automotive Skills; and is already well established in the UK. There are three levels of ATA competency, including: Service Maintenance Technician equivalent to BMW Technician, Diagnostic Technician equivalent to BMW Senior Technician and Master Technician equivalent to BMW Master Technician. The ATA accreditation is valid for five years after which Technicians will need to apply for re-accreditation.
BMW has developed the BMW Technicians Institute (TI) Scheme, which is a career development plan for Technicians within the BMW Dealer Network within the UK and Ireland. This places BMW Technicians amongst the very best in the world where they will always be on top of all advances in technology.
Commenting on the results, Sean Green, Managing Director of BMW Group Ireland said, "The speed in which all of the individuals completed the course and the 93% pass rate is unprecedented. I have no doubt that this new found level of technical ability in our service network will ensure quick diagnosis and repair on the rare occasions that this is required for our customers."
