Sainsbury's opens travel money bureau at flagship store in Greenwich

29th June 2012 Print

Sainsbury's Bank, this week launches a new travel money bureau in Sainsbury's flagship Greenwich store, taking its total travel money estate to 122 bureaux. The supermarket bank will provide a convenient way for the community and tourists passing through to collect their foreign currency in-store, offering increased choice and competitive exchange rates before jetting off from this European travel hub.

The launch, ahead of this year's summer sporting events and busy tourist season, follows a period of steady growth of the bank's in-store travel money estate and is testament to customer demand; European travel proving particularly popular as many travellers took advantage of the double Bank holiday and extended Jubilee celebrations. The 1st June was the Bank's best ever day for travel money sales and during March, April and May 2012, 81% more Euros were sold year on year.

The bank believes the surge in Euro transactions could be in part due to large numbers of holidaymakers purchasing currency well in advance to take advantage of favourable exchange rates.

The new Sainsbury's Travel Money bureau will be open seven days a week; giving customers the option to purchase their currency from a strong, trusted brand in the centre of their community, they have the choice to either pick up currencies in-store or order in advance online and collect it in-store whenever is most convenient for them.

David Barrett, of Sainsbury's Travel Money said: "The creation of our new bureau follows a period of sustained growth for our travel money division. We've created a product and service that gives our customers the convenience of being able to collect their foreign currency in-store while doing their  weekly shop or when they're in picking up their holiday essentials.

"We're very pleased that the new branch will be open in time for the summer tourist season. With record numbers of visitors expected in London this year, we're in a great position to offer our services to holidaymakers coming to the UK, in addition to our loyal customers.

"We strive to provide our customers with consistently competitive rates and a high standard of customer service and we are pleased that we will now be offering this to our customers in Greenwich."

Sainsbury's Bank Travel Money customers can also access its products and services online or over the phone. Customers can benefit from services including next-day delivery of their foreign currency to their billing address, if ordered online before 2pm from Monday to Thursday. Plus, free delivery is available for online and phone orders over £500.
