Going on holiday is great fun but many people have a tendency to put on weight whilst enjoying their time off. Adventures in the Alps has asked its' athletes and trainers how they have fun but keep bikini trim whilst they are on holiday.

Getting Exercise

Liz Yelling, British Olympic Marathon Runner, said; “Holidays are the perfect time to get more exercise than usual as you have more time to be active. Swimming with the kids in the pool or playing games on the beach are great ways to get up and off the sun bed. If you don’t have restrictions such as children, go for a hike or hire some bikes and tap into the explorer in you.”

Christine Hemphill, World Champion Triathlete, recommends; “Read up before you go so you know what is available to do at your destination. Try something new and challenge yourself this year, it might help you find a new sport and something to keep doing when you come home."

Prue Blamey, Yoga Teacher, follows; “When on holiday it’s good to form a holiday exercise routine and the best way to do this is to get out first thing in the morning, That way you can still enjoy the rest of the day for sight seeing or relaxing. If you want to take siesta, do it mid afternoon like the Mediterranean countries do.”

Eating Healthily

Liz Yelling commented; “Being abroad allows you to seek fresh, local foods. Often beach resorts have great fresh fish.  Also the warmer weather on holiday means BBQs are often the top choice when self-catering, but opt for fresh unprocessed products like fish, chicken or lamb kebabs, rather than the sausage or burger.

Christine Hemphill added, “Once at your destination take pleasure in finding the great healthy ingredients and foods of the area. Go to the local markets and enjoy the experience of buying a good range of local fruits and fresh foods to cook with or keep in your bag so you always have a healthy option when you need a snack or meal.”

Liz Yelling finalised by saying; “Try not to binge on holiday. A good diet is one where everything is enjoyed in moderation. This way you won’t put on weight whilst you are away but you can still enjoy your holiday.”

Pip Watkins, MD of Adventures in the Alps followed by saying, “Instead of a beach holiday why not choose an active holiday, like the ones offered by Adventures in the Alps? It has been proven that active holidays help you de-stress more than lying on a beach. Why not try something new this year.”
