Last month Volvo Trucks Austria sold the first Volvo FE Hybrid in Austria to Saubermacher, a multi-national company specialising in the disposal and recycling of waste.

The Volvo FE Hybrid was presented to the public and journalists on the Stephansplatz, in the heart of Vienna. Herbert Spiegel, CEO Volvo Austria GmbH, and Christian Coolsaet, Director Commercial Trucks, Volvo Trucks Region Central Europe, handed over the truck to Hans Roth, founder and chairman of Saubermacher Dienstleistungs AG. In addition, Toni Faber, cathedral priest of the St. Stephan’s Cathedral in Vienna, also blessed the truck and its driver for their daily round around Austria’s capital city.

Austrian residents and employees will benefit from the new hybrid because the noise levels will be up to 50 per cent less than a conventional truck plus fuel consumption and CO2emissions will be reduced up to 30 per cent.

Saubermacher is proud to be an innovator in their business sector with the FE Hybrid truck. In fact, since 2008, the company has been operating an environmental protection charter, whereby their goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other non-environmentally-friendly substances. “You cannot change the world overnight,” says Hans Roth, “But you can take small steps towards a better environment for future generations.”
