Monday blues get Brits booking getaways

New data from Quidco, the UK cashback site, has found that Brits have been battling the post-weekend blues by booking last minute holidays on Mondays.

Quidco purchases in the holiday category peak consecutively on Mondays, as savvy customers take to their computers on the most depressing day of the week in a bid to escape the record washout weather.

Shoppers treated themselves to Quidco holiday bargains, from beach breaks to weekend city getaways, earning themselves an astounding £823k in cashback in June alone. This was a 20% increase in commission pocketed by holidaymakers in the same period last year.

Monday sales accounted for 15% of all June holiday purchases, with Quidco customers pocketing £115k's worth of cashback from their desks from one month alone. The only Monday not to have consumers craving sunnier climes fell on the 3rd June, as millions enjoyed a Bank Holiday away from the office and tuned in to watch The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

UK consumers halted their holiday plans to fly the flag for Britain over the Jubilee weekend choosing corgis over Corfu. Holiday purchases over this momentous weekend accounted for just 10% of the month's total purchases - two per cent less than the same period in June 2011.
