Community spirit paves way at Locking Parklands

New homeowners at St. Modwen Homes’ Locking Parklands will be coming together this week to celebrate the growing community at the mixed-use development.
Kicking into action from 6pm on Friday 3rd August, the community event will see approximately 100 new and existing residents – made up of those living in St. Modwen Homes’ private housing and Sovereign’s affordable housing on the Locking Parklands site – join together for a BBQ and family fun evening.
Funded by Sovereign Housing Association, the event has been organised by St. Augustine’s Anglican Church in Locking and Worle Baptist Church, and supported by both the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and St. Modwen Homes. The event aims to give the new residents a chance to get to know one another and help create a sustainable community at the development. This was one of the original aims outlined by St. Modwen Homes when construction began last November (2011).
Neil Simpson, sales and marketing director at St. Modwen Homes said: “It is our vision that Locking Parklands will be somewhere that people want to live, plan their future and bring up their children, and a place where a strong community develops amongst the new residents and those on neighbouring sites. We designed the site so that it exploits the natural beauty of its surroundings, keeping the existing wildlife habitats and open space intact for future generations to enjoy. It is incredibly rewarding to see people already enjoying the open spaces on offer.
“Creating a sustainable and integrated community has been a big aim of ours at Locking Parklands and I would like to thank the members of both churches, Sovereign Housing Association and the HCA who have helped to bring this event together. I hope all of our new residents pop along to the BBQ and enjoy a couple hours of meeting the neighbours over some tasty food.”
The community BBQ will take place on the playing field in The Parkside phase of the development, located off Farnborough Road, and will finish around 8pm. All residents of Locking Parklands, Flower Down and Locking Grove are invited to the event, which is free to attend.
Husband and wife, Malcolm and Liz Cundy, helped to organise the event and have now reserved a property at Locking Parklands. Malcolm said: “We wanted to be involved in putting on a special event that will help to bring the community together at Locking Parklands and in the future, we are looking forward to working together with existing and new residents in arranging regular activities and ‘get togethers’.
“When we first saw Locking Parklands, we knew this was a place where people would want to settle and it is going to be very exciting to be part of the growing community here.”
When complete, Locking Parklands will deliver approximately 1,200 new homes, 650,000 sq ft of employment space – including a 30,000 sq ft Innovation Centre – retail offerings, a library, school and additional leisure facilities.
The marketing suite, located off Farnborough Road at Locking Parklands is open for visitors seven days a week between 10am and 6pm. To find out more about the latest phase of homes, visit lockingparklands.co.uk.
