Health and Safety are key fleet concerns for 2007

Health and safety issues are still the most important concerns facing company fleet managers in 2007 according to a new survey by Lex, the UK’s largest car leasing company.

39 per cent of fleets questioned said road safety was their major concern, the fifth year in a row it has topped the poll. However, just 12 months ago 48% of fleets were concerned about safety, suggesting either fleets have got their house in order or are losing interest in Duty of Care.

Just behind safety at 38 per cent was running costs, but not surprisingly the biggest change was around running a greener company car fleet. 29 per cent of fleets saw ‘going green’ as a key issue, up from eighth and sixth places respectively in the 2005 and 2006 Lex surveys.

134 fleets responsible for over 40,000 vehicles responded to the Lex survey, which is now in its fifth year.

“In many respects we were surprised that going green didn’t come out top of the survey, bearing in mind the exposure this issue has had over the past 12 months,” explained Jon Walden, Managing Director of Lex.

“On the subject of safety we talk to many fleets each month and generally most have got the issue under control, which is why interest may be waning slightly,” he added.
