La Manga Club sharpens golf focus with exciting new imagery

La Manga Club has had plenty to celebrate in its 40th anniversary year and the luxury resort has moved to put the focus on its golfing product by commissioning a new set of photographs to highlight its three 18-hole championship courses.

Award-winning golf photographer Mark Alexander spent three days at the five-star venue taking images of its South, North and West courses and capturing the magic that has made them such a favourite with golfers across Europe.

La Manga Club has been at the forefront of European golf since opening in 1972, hosting the Spanish Open five times between 1973-77, while legends of the game including Gary Player, Arnold Palmer and Seve Ballesteros have all played a part in its rich history.

World number two Luke Donald also learned to play golf at the resort at the age of nine during family holidays and Alexander had no hesitation in accepting his latest photographic assignment.

"It was a great pleasure to photograph the three courses at La Manga Club, especially during the resort's 40th anniversary," said Alexander.

"It is a very special place and my job was to capture its beauty by creating a collection of images that will entice people to play golf.

"To achieve this, I shot the courses early in the morning and late at night to capture the spirit of the lay-outs so the viewer almost feels the club in their hands.

"It is an objective I set myself whenever I am on a shoot, and considering the legends who have played at La Manga Club, this was a job to savour."

Alexander has photographed many of the leading courses all over the world and his recent projects have included working with Royal Lytham & St Annes - venue for last month's Open Championship - and the St Andrews Links Trust, while he is a regular provider of images for the likes of Golf World, Golf Illustrated and Golf Digest.

Set over 1,400 acres in an area three times the size of Monaco, La Manga Club is renowned for its first-class range of facilities and has played host to some of the leading names in sport and leisure over the years.

In addition, as well as offering a wide selection of sports academies to children, the resort is hosting the Lee Westwood Golf Academy, Real Madrid Football Camp and Daley Thompson Athletics Academy this summer where budding sports stars of the future can improve their skills.

La Manga Club boasts unrivalled facilities as a sport and leisure venue including three 18-hole championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre. It also offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses, more than 20 bars and restaurants and is great fun for children.
