Clean Air Power open European R&D facility

A British company at the forefront of reducing carbon emissions for truck operators around the world has chosen the UK to open its new European Research and Development centre.

Clean Air Power, whose Dual-Fuel™ technology enables trucks to run on combined diesel and natural gas, has opened the new facility in Leyland, Lancashire.

Employing 30 people, the 20,000 square ft facility was opened by Owen Paterson MP, Shadow Minister of State for Transport, on 25 January 2007 and will service all installation and technical needs of its European customers. Paterson has been a keen supporter of the Dual-Fuel™ project for some time and sees it as a real option for operators to reduce carbon emissions and fuel usage.

Paterson said: “With Dual-Fuel™ technology the transport industry already has a major weapon in the battle against climate change. I will continue to champion their work and offer my support to this revolutionary company.”

The Leyland centre has the capacity to work on eight trucks at any one time and joins two other Clean Air Power facilities in San Diego, California and Melbourne, Australia, where it installs and services its Dual-Fuel™ truck technology.

So far Clean Air Power has installed its technology in over 1,600 trucks around the world. Dual-Fuel™ is an immediate solution to reducing CO2 emissions by around 25 tonnes per truck per annum and can reduce annual fuel bills by around £15,000 per truck.
John Pettitt, Clean Air Power’s Chief Executive said; “This new facility in Leyland will enable us to develop our technology in association with truck manufacturers and operators around Europe.

“While the Government is looking to tax their way to reducing the UK’s carbon footprint and operators talk constantly about emissions, we actually have a system that is already available and reducing a truck’s impact on the environment.

“The Leyland centre has already completed installations for British and Italian operators and we have had strong interest from carbon conscious companies across Europe,” he added.
