Nissan paints the yard pink
Nissan is appealing to the growing number of metrosexual tradesmen with the launch of a special pink version of Bobby the Builder’s favourite workhorse, the Cabstar forward control truck. In addition, anyone test-driving a Cabstar before the end of June will receive a voucher for a free back wax.The Cabstar Pink follows the recent launch of the Micra C+C Pink. The colours, though, are subtly different with the Cabstar’s hue modelled on the flesh tone which builders are historically famed for displaying to passers by. Nissan’s stylists have christened the shade "pink cheek".
Based on the medium wheelbase Cabstar BD30Ti Dropside, just 23 Pink editions will be made to reflect the number of the chromosome that differentiates lad from lass. It’s priced at £17,577 ex VAT and comes with a cute, matching leather-effect tool-belt with nail-file slot and an extra large, pink hard hat. The latter is so the sculptured hair-style below remains unspoilt while on the job. Thus the metrosexual builder can go straight from site to wine bar without pausing to apply more hair product.
Nissan is one of the first light commercial vehicle manufacturers to recognise the trend towards a softer builder. On driveways and building sites nationwide, but particularly Brighton, more builders can be seen rejecting the stereotypical pasty in favour of a hummus wrap. During a job, they will pause to moisturise rather than to down another brew. And instead of whistling at passing women, they engage them in conversation. As Nissan’s LCV Brand Manager, Isabelle Kerdat explained: "Only recently I had a builder over and he was more interested in my clothing than my cornicing."
The Cabstar Pink is available to order now. As numbers are limited, interested customers will be required to produce proof of a pedicure.
