Castello del Nero awarded Two Forks by Gambero Rosso

La Torre Restaurant at Castello del Nero, the five-star authentic Tuscan retreat in Chianti, has been awarded Two Forks by the Italian gourmet guide Gambero Rosso with a score of 81 out of 95.

The guide grades restaurants on crucial aspects of the dining experience including menu choices; taste and presentation; wine selection; service; price; and ambience. It is highly regarded in Italy and further afield as an independent quality benchmark for discerning diners.

Fabio Datteroni, General Manager at Castello del Nero said: “We’re especially delighted with this accolade as it is the first time La Torre has featured in the guide and to be rated so highly is recognition of the efforts and attention to detail of our Executive Chef, Giovanni Luca di Pirro and his team.”

Specific dishes that inspired the Gambero Rosso reviewers included Executive Chef Di Pirro’s slow cooked poached Parisi’s eggs served with pecorino cheese sauce and seasonal truffle, and toasted sea scallops flavoured with crispy Tuscan bacon and orange sauce. Other highlights included potatoes with San Gimignano saffron-infused cream with glazed onions and red prawns, and crispy roasted pigeon leg served with foie gras.*

As the child of a passionate professional cook, Executive Chef Di Pirro was inspired from a very early age by the aromas, textures and tastes of Italian food, with its myriad regional and seasonal variations. Di Pirro joined Castello del Nero in spring 2012 bringing a philosophy, inspired by Tuscan traditions and landscapes, to create exquisite cuisine from the freshest in-season produce from the locality.

Located twenty minutes from Florence and thirty minutes from Siena, Castello del Nero Hotel & Spa commands views across the rolling Tuscan hills and vineyards from its meticulously restored rooms, shade dappled terraces and heated outdoor pool. The estate produces its own red wine and extra virgin olive oil, showcased in La Torre Restaurant. Located in the former stables of the estate, the central feature of the restaurant is the magnificent decorated fireplace that complements the high-arched ceiling, terracotta tiled floor, and the French doors that reveal the breath taking Chianti countryside.

A la carte menus are served for lunch and dinner and feature a range of Di Pirro’s signature dishes showcasing typical Tuscan flavours and made with the freshest local produce. Accommodation with breakfast starts from EUR380 per night. Dinner for two in La Torre Restaurant starts from EUR50 for the Traditions of Tuscany Tasting Menu.
