The Supreme Court in India has lifted its ban on tourism in over 40 Government-run tiger reserves, re-opening the door to tourists.

The ban was put in place back in July following concerns that tourism was having a detrimental effect on the tiger population. There remains a huge demand on the black market for body parts and, despite armed guards being stationed within all reserves, sadly the magnificent animals are still being killed.

Comments Mark Wright, Founder of Families Worldwide, which organises family adventure holidays to India with visits to tiger reservations, including the famous Ranthambhore National Park: “This is welcome news indeed. India is a fantastic destination for families with its vibrant colours, friendly people, wonderfully diverse scenery and unique wildlife.

“We respect and support tiger conservation charities and a visit to a reservation to spot these magnificent beasts in the wild is the highlight of any family adventure holiday to India.”

Families Worldwide organises a choice of adventure holidays to India including the 11-day Taj and Tigers trip which has a Christmas departure on 21 December.

The action-packed itinerary includes an exploration of the pink city of Jaipur, a city tour of Old Delhi, a train ride to Ajmer, a visit to the iconic Taj Mahal, an elephant ride (optional) following a visit to the Amber Fort, a rickshaw ride, a Bollywood film (optional) and a sunset camel ride.

But the real highlight of the holiday is a guided safari drive to spot magnificent tigers in the Ranthambhore National Park.

The holiday has a guaranteed departure on 21 December and costs from £1799 per child (min. age 5) and £1979 per adult. This includes flights, all transportation, 9 nights’ B&B (plus 3 lunches & 4 dinners), activities as detailed on the itinerary and the services of a tour leader.

Land only prices are £819 per child and £849 per adult for those who would rather make their own flight arrangements
