Food and drink festival for South West travellers

7th November 2012 Print

A celebration of the best food and drink produced in the South West proved so successful that one of the region’s leading coach companies has decided to launch excursions to it in 2013.

The Festival of South West Food and Drink based in Exeter has been included in the Bakers Dolphin ‘days out’ calendar.

Located in the picturesque Exeter Castle grounds, the festival showcases the best food and drink from the region. From preserves to pasties, the huge variety of produce available reflects the range of food industries within the South West.

Demonstrations and appearances at the 2012 festival from Michael Caines and Kirstie Alsopp were a highlight of the event - 2013 promises to be just as exciting with tickets already in demand.

Thanks to the popularity of TV programmes such as The Great British Bake Off and Fifteen Minute Meals, Britain has become a nation obsessed with food. Jamie Oliver recently became the fastest selling non-fiction author ever and John Lewis reported sales of baking equipment are up by 47 per cent year on year.

Bakers Dolphin Sales and Marketing Director Amanda Harrington said: “We are hugely excited to offer the Festival of South West Food and Drink day trip.

“Visits to Devon have always proved incredibly popular, particularly the Exeter Farmers Market. With the increasing awareness of the importance of supporting independent retailers I’m confident the festival will be a real hit with our customers.

“Travelling to the festival by coach also enables people to safely sample the ciders and beers without worrying about driving home afterwards.

“Groups of friends or families can travel together rather than journey in separate cars. The large number of pick-up points we have across central Bristol, Clevedon, Highbridge and Weston-Super-Mare gives ease of travel to the festival described as “the ultimate foodie event”.”

Priced at just £23 per adult, £22 for seniors and £12 per child a ticket includes entry to the festival on April 27, 2013 as well as travel to Exeter.

Bakers Dolphin is offering a number of days out for food lovers over the upcoming months. These include a day trip to Cadbury World, a visit to Exeter Farmers Market and travel and entry to the Cake International Exhibition at Birmingham NEC. For further details, visit bakersdolphin.com.
