Florida’s wonderful weather (20-22 degrees of warmth by day, 10-11 hours of daylight and zero humidity) makes it a great winter sun choice for couples and families alike, for beachside relaxation, Miami city breaks, active holidays or theme park thrills.

Tour America Direct’s winter package deals include:

Clearwater Beach, from £849 per person for seven nights on the white sands at the Hilton Clearwater Beach, which sits on a 10 acre site within walking distance of the resort’s Pier 60 bars and restaurants (try conch, Cajun-style shrimp and lobster).  The Hilton has two heated outdoor pools and a Jacuzzi, sun loungers and cabanas on the beach plus a health club. Snorkelling, kayaking and parasailing are all on offer here, with deep-sea fishing and dolphin cruises available from the marina.  Flights are from Gatwick to Tampa.

Miami and the Florida Keys for a great two-centre from just £1,169 per person - including flights in and out of Miami and three nights in the city before picking up a hire car to head south for four nights at a luxury beach resort.  In Miami, the Albion Hotel has a great central location and is a classic Art Deco hotel with a modern feel.  A leisurely three-and-a-half hour drive takes you to Key West and Casa Marina, a Waldorf Astoria Resort that welcomed 1950s stars including Rita Hayworth, and is restored to its former glory after a $43M refit.   The ocean-side pools, spa and choice of restaurants provide all you could want from a luxury resort, but it’s well worth tearing yourself away from the beach to visit Hemingway’s former home, the Wreckers’ Museum or the de-commissioned lighthouse.

Families looking for festive fun will love Universal Orlando’s theme parks, where celebrations include Macy’s Holiday Parade at dusk each evening and musical presentations of ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’.  A week’s holiday for a family of four at the first-class Loews Royal Pacific Resort costs from £3,900 in total including flights from Gatwick to Orlando on 21 December.  Theme Park passes start at £99 and the benefits of staying at the Loews (an official Universal Orlando Resort hotel) include early admission to the theme parks, queue jumping privileges, free resort-wide transport and priority restaurant seating.

In all examples above, package prices includes scheduled flights, taxes, accommodation (but not meals) in a standard room based on two people sharing (four at Universal Orlando).
