BPA free thermometer puts Vicks a step ahead

The Vicks V965 ComfortFlex thermometer has been modified to be completely BPA free in order to meet increasing demand from consumers for BPA free baby products.
The Vicks V965 ComfortFlex thermometer is suitable for oral, rectal and underarm use and is waterproof for easy cleaning and disinfection. Additionally, the Vicks V965 ComfortFlex is equipped with Fever InSight technology which uses a traffic light colour-coded system to display body temperature.
"A recent quantitative survey run in the US showed that almost a third of mothers interviewed ranked "BPA free" as one of the top three features when ranking 20 thermometers features. Vicks values the views of parents and we decided to launch a BPA free thermometer to give the carer peace of mind while providing reliable temperature measurement," says Emanuela D'Aloisio, Marketing Manager Healthcare at Kaz Europe SA which manufactures Vicks thermometers in Europe under license to the Vicks trademark.
Bisphenol A is an organic chemical commonly used to manufacture plastic materials, such as baby bottles. In 2010, the European Commission asked the European Food Authority (EFSA) to assess scientific evidence linked to the risk of products containing BPA on human health. Whilst conclusions show that intake of BPA is safe up to 0.05 milligrams per kilo of bodyweight, the EFSA raised questions on the potential consequences of BPA on infants and suggested more robust data on the areas of uncertainty was needed.
John Dalli, EU commissioner in charge of health and consumer policy added: "Due to the fact that there are uncertainties concerning the effect of the exposure of infants to Bisphenol A, the Commission deemed it both necessary and appropriate to take action. The aim is to further reduce the exposure of the most vulnerable part of our population - i.e. infants".
As a consequence, the EU commission banned baby bottles containing BPA as of March 2011. The US followed when the Food and Drug Administration declared in July 2012 that baby bottles and children's drinking cups could no longer contain BPA.
The Vicks V965 ComfortFlex comes with a two year warranty and is available in pharmacies and juvenile stores at the recommended price of £11,99. The product is labeled with the "0% BPA" logo.
