EDF Energy launches new Blue +Price Promise
EDF Energy is today (30 November 2012) launching Blue +Price Promise June 2014 which will give customers the chance to fix their energy prices for the next 19 months at a competitive price – with the freedom to leave at any time without paying an exit fee.
Based on a national average of regional prices, the annual dual fuel bill for a customer on Blue +Price Promise June 2014 paying by direct debit will be £1,182 a year at typical consumption.
That makes it the cheapest fixed priced product offered by any of the major suppliers and is also below the new standard variable prices of British Gas, SSE, Scottish Power and npower.
Customers signing up to Blue +Price Promise June 2014 will benefit from:
An industry-first Price Promise to inform customers if another energy supplier offers a tariff which could save them at least £52 a year, at typical use.
No termination fees
A guarantee that the electricity a customer uses will be matched by low carbon electricity generated by nuclear power stations without paying a premium.
Monthly rewards for all customers through EDF Energy’s Thank Yous programme
UK-based call centres
Since EDF Energy launched its first Blue +Price Promise product in April, over 950,000 customer accounts have switched to this innovative type of tariff.
Blue +Price Promise June 2014 will be available to dual fuel, and electricity-only customers. It will be open to both new and existing customers.
EDF Energy’s Blue +Fixed Price March 2015 – which guarantees prices will not increase for the next three winters - will also remain on sale. Based on a national average of regional prices, the annual dual fuel bill for the product is £1,252 a year at typical consumption, the same price as the company’s standard variable price. The cost of buying the energy upfront to support the longer fixed priced period means it does come with an exit fee if customers want to leave the company for another supplier.
Martin Lawrence, managing director of energy sourcing and customer supply, said: “We know most people use significantly more gas and electricity in the winter so it’s an ideal time for people to consider switching to a deal which offers them a great fixed price.
“Our Blue +Price Promise June 2014 tariff not only guarantees customers that their energy prices will be fixed at a highly competitive rate for next 19 months but also the gives them the flexibility to leave for free at any point if they find a cheaper deal.
“We’ll even promise to tell customers if a rival brings out a tariff which saves them the equivalent of £1 a week or more at typical consumption.
“This is part of our wider commitment to rebuilding trust with customers by offering them fair prices in an open and transparent way.”
