Late availability in Lapland

It’s old news that the Northern Lights are at their very best this winter. Everyone’s cottoned on to it, meaning that both availability and reasonable prices can be hard to come by. Helpfully, The White Circle – a new adult-only brand from Lapland specialists Activities Abroad – has launched a brand-new holiday with excellent availability this January.

Based in Harriniva, 200km beyond the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, the five-night holiday is totally flexible, meaning that all guests – from the hardcore adventurer to the armchair Aurora-hunter – can tailor-make it to be their own. Mix-and-match in principle, guests sign up for as many – or as few – activities as they wish: opt for snowmobile trips, cross-country skiing, reindeer sleigh rides and/or a lesson on lassoing reindeer. And, conveniently, across the road from the hotel, there’s the Arctic Sled Dog Centre, from where all husky safaris set off – whether it’s a 9km meander or an overnight adventure. Then, there’s the Northern Lights hunting – be it on snow-shoes, from a snowmobile, in a sleigh or in a heated minibus. For less-adrenalin-seeking folk, there are saunas at the hotel, spa treatments to be booked, mesmerising snowy-white landscapes to contemplate, paint or photograph, and an Aurora alarm to maximise chances of a sighting.

Taking advantage of low-season rates, this new five-night Harriniva January trip costs from £795 pp (two sharing) including flights (London via Copenhagen), transfers, five nights’ half-board hotel accommodation and cold-weather clothing. Activities extra – from £13 pp for a typically-Finnish Aurora pulkka (evening picnic).
