npower joins 'Energy Bill Revolution' campaign
RWE npower has joined a campaign calling for warmer homes and lower energy bills. The 'Energy Bill Revolution' is asking the Government to use the money it gets from carbon taxes to make the UK’s homes super-energy efficient. This will drive down energy bills, help end fuel poverty, help tackle child poverty, create jobs, improve health and reduce carbon emissions.
Paul Massara, RWE npower chief commercial officer, said: "We're pleased to support the Energy Bill Revolution as we believe any money raised through the energy system should go to customers. Energy efficiency is fundamental in reducing household energy bills and carbon emissions. Over the next 15 years, the Government will raise £63 billion in carbon taxes and this money could help insulate millions of homes."
The campaign, made up of over 100 leading charities, consumer groups, businesses and unions is the biggest fuel poverty alliance ever formed in the UK. It is estimated that there is enough carbon revenue to end fuel poverty and in time help make every UK home highly energy efficient. The Government will raise over £2 billion in carbon tax revenue in 2013 with consumers each paying an average of £25 on their electricity bill. By 2020 the Government will raise £4 billion in carbon tax with consumers paying an average of £54.
