25th September 2008 Print
Nissan has announced its sales, production and export results for August 2008.

Sales

Global sales increased 4.1% to 299,987 units compared to the previous year.

In Japan, Nissan's vehicle registrations in August decreased 18.8% year-on-year to 31,467 units resulting mainly from the sluggish SUV market. Nissan's share of the domestic market registrations in August was down 0.8 percentage points year-on-year to 16.2%.

Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were up 1.0% from the previous year to 9,122 units.

Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 40,589 units in Japan, down 15.1% year-on-year. Market share was down 0.7 percentage points year-on-year to 13.1%.

Nissan sales in the U.S. increased 13.6% year-on-year to 108,493 units, which included strong sales of the Rogue crossover and the new Maxima.

In Europe, sales increased 0.8% year-on-year to 36,869 units following strong sales of Qashqai and Tiida and increased sales in Russia and Ukraine.

Sales in the GOM regions were up 8.3% from the previous year to 89,449 units.

Production

Nissan's global production in August decreased 5.5% year-on-year to 252,609 units.

Domestic production decreased 4.3% year-on-year to 83,443 units.

Production outside of Japan decreased 6.1% year-on-year to 169,166 units.

In the U.S., although the new Maxima contributed strong sales, overall vehicle production fell 24.7% year-on-year to 49,000 units. The decline in production was a result of the industry-wide downturn in demand for light-trucks and SUVs, which has resulted from significant and sustained increases in gasoline prices.

In Mexico, production decreased 6.9% year-on-year to 45,874 units.

In the U.K., production increased 25.3% year-on-year to 27,692 units.

In Spain, production decreased 56.5% year-on-year to 4,081 units.

Production in the General Overseas Markets (GOM) grew 23.7% year-on-year to 42,519 units mainly due to increased demand for the new Livina C-Gear and Qashqai in China and the new Teana.

Exports from Japan

Nissan's exports in August increased 30.6% to 60,529 units compared to the previous year.

Exports to North America rose 6.0% year-on-year to 19,852 units resulting from increased demand for Rogue and Murano.

Exports to Europe grew 96.7% year-on-year to 11,010 units mainly on the back of the new Teana’s strong performance in Russia.

Exports to other regions rose 34.8% year-on-year to 29,667 units.
