Further jobs boost for Sunderland Plant

22nd July 2009 Print
Nissan Motor Manufacturing Nissan’s Sunderland Plant is recruiting an additional 100 manufacturing staff to meet continued strong demand arising from pan-European scrappage schemes.

The new posts, which will be initially offered as fixed term, three-month contracts, are in addition to the 250 temporary manufacturing posts announced in May and June.

Scrappage schemes operating in countries such as Germany and the UK, have seen demand for Sunderland built models rise by an additional 24,000 units against the original production plan for the June-September period.`

Trevor Mann, Nissan Senior Vice President for Manufacturing, Europe commented: “We are currently experiencing a short term but significant spike in demand for Sunderland models as a result of scrappage Incentive Schemes.

“In particular, Micra and Note are proving extremely popular, and account for around two thirds of all Nissan scrappage sales across our main European markets.”
