A striking new Volvo tractor unit fitted with a huge PM85 loader is not only turning heads, but is also attracting new customers, according to Graham Cornes, Managing Director of Golden Triangle Generators Ltd. The evocative ‘Silence is Golden’ message - which appears on the headboard - refers to the low-noise ‘super silent’ generators favoured by Golden Triangle.

The Volvo FH 6x2 tractor unit is employed to load, transport and unload mobile generators, a task it performs with consummate ease thanks to its superb and carefully considered specification.

In addition the imposing black-painted FH, with its eye-catching livery and intriguing company name, is virtually guaranteed to attract the attention of potential customers.

Offering a service that includes the sale, hire, repair and servicing of generators of almost every size and type, Golden Triangle Generators operates a fleet of articulated and rigid vehicles throughout the UK and into Europe.

“The new Volvo is the first to join the fleet,” explained Graham, before adding: “A great deal of thought went into its design and we were impressed by Volvo’s obvious willingness and ability to build a vehicle that incorporated every single feature we felt we needed. The end result is a truck that not only meets our expectations in terms of performance, but which is a dream to operate and really looks the part.”

Although capable of operating at a gross weight of 65-tonnes under STGO authorisation, the Golden Triangle Generators’ Volvo is plated at 44-tonnes in order to avoid any type of operating restrictions.

Powered by the 13-litre 500-hp Volvo diesel, the truck is on top of the jobs that come its way. Driver Alan Drury is said to be ‘well pleased’ with his new vehicle.

Installation of the PM Crane was carried out by Truck Hydraulics at Thorne, near Doncaster and the attractive painting and sign-writing completed by Signs and Designs of Liverpool.

Referring to the new Volvo as ‘an extremely well-built and nicely proportioned truck’ Graham went on to explain that supplier Thomas Hardie Commercials offered exactly the right balance of skilled staff, excellent opening hours and superb facilities, saying: “When making an investment of this magnitude, it’s important to know that you can rely on not only the quality of the vehicle, but on the expertise and commitment of the after-sales support systems too.”
