Medical experts launch one-stop clinic

Four West Midlands medical experts have joined forces to launch the Birmingham Gut and Liver Clinic based at the private BMI Priory Hospital in Edgbaston.
Consultant Transplant Hepatologists Dr Dennis Freshwater and Dr Andrew Holt along with Gastroenterology Consultants Dr Ralph Boulton and Dr Kate Kane formed the clinic to create a one-stop shop for the investigation, diagnosis and medical treatment of gastrointestinal and liver symptoms and diseases.
And to take away the worry of unexpected costs and charges the clinic has introduced a set price list that will be agreed with patients after their initial consultation.
“Once individual treatment needs have been identified we will be able to provide patients with details of what that treatment will cost,” explained Dr Holt.
“Then, for conditions requiring surgery or endoscopic therapy, BMI Healthcare Option packages will explain any further charges involved. Growing numbers of people are opting to pay for their own treatment but some are put off because they fear hidden charges may break their budget.
“We want to provide speedy access to treatment while also taking away the worry of payment that can sometimes put people off having a private consultation.”
Together, the consultants will provide the full range of specialist expertise in the management of gut or liver disorders from common conditions to complex and rare diseases.
Dr Holt explained: “It is just a case of bringing all our expertise into one clinic allowing us to give patients the best possible gut and liver healthcare.”
