New smartphone app offers clearer thinking for homeowners

Saint-Gobain Glass (SGG) has utilised the latest technology to help homeowners understand the importance of fitting the correct glass in their new windows.
The new smartphone app developed by the glass manufacturer will help homeowners achieve maximum comfort and efficiency in the home as well as significant savings on their energy bills.
The app is called the SGG Glass Compass and is both for smartphone and online use. It can determine the most appropriate glazing for any home and then calculates the long term cost savings on energy bills this option will create.
The application simplifies the process of choosing the correct glass for the windows in your home meaning homeowners can achieve their desired level of comfort all year around.
By providing basic details about the home – such as type of heating fuel used, number of windows and the level of winter and summer comfort required, the clever app utilizes GPS technology to determine location and orientation of a property.
The app then calculates the cost savings that can be made when old windows are upgraded to new ones with high performance glass in either double or triple glazing.
Craig Dodsworth, Residential Market Manager for SGGUK, believes the SGG Glass Compass App provides an excellent tool to help the homeowner produce their own calculations: “The beauty of this new tool is that it educates homeowners about how choosing the right combination of glazing can lead to a more comfortable home with far lower energy bills in a very bespoke way – rather than using a “one size fits all” approach.”
The SGG Glass Compass app is available for both iOS and Android platforms and may be downloaded at glass-compass.com. Since its launch earlier in 2012, the SGG Glass Compass app has been downloaded over 5,000 times Europe-wide.
