Lease a limo for keeps

13th February 2007 Print
Lease a limo for keeps Limousines have never been so popular, and the American Stretch limo is now a common sight around the country ferrying partygoers to clubs, hotels, theatres and any sort of venue one might imagine.

The world is divided on the nature of these large behemoths, some complete with Jacuzzis, bars and home cinemas – and owning one requires a long driveway and deep pockets when it comes to filling the tank. However, there is a way of owning a limo that comes without the issues of legality and practicality. How does a near pristine six door Volvo 740 series limousine sound as an alternative?

These pre-owned cars have been well maintained and are on Volvo factory heavy-duty chassis including axles and suspension, so no worry about the construction quality or a contorted registration process. Mileage is around the 70,000 mark, which is nothing on a Volvo – and most have been garaged.

As a limousine option for an aspiring hotelier, or private hire firm they offer an entry level vehicle with a touch of class with a price ticket that doesn’t make the accountants nervous. Even the local publican could afford to have a limousine to offer a luxury service to his clients

The Volvo 740 series limousine comes with an extra set of centre doors and a centre row of occasional seats allowing it to carry six passengers plus a driver in comfort. Rear occupant privacy can be assured by a glass divider behind the driver’s seat. Unlike an MPV there is also a spacious boot, so carrying luggage to and from airports or railway stations is never an issue. In fact, as a family alternative to an MPV the Volvo 740 series limousine is a viable option.

So, to the nitty-gritty. How do you get your hands on one of these elegant vehicles? All you have to do is lease the vehicle for six weeks and you can keep it. This is the ultimate lease purchase option. Simply lease the car from as little as £250 per week for six weeks and it is yours to do with what you like.

The cars come as Henry Ford used to say, in any colour you like so long as it is black. Sellers, Binz UK distributors of extended Mercedes-Benz based Binz extended limousines have a number of these Volvos available, each with a known history. In this case they can honestly say, never raced or rallied.

Kevin Smith, sales director at Binz said, “Despite their age, these are vehicles that still have an aura of class about them. They come complete with automatic transmissions and top-of-the-line features such as air conditioning and electric windows. As Volvo ceased making extended chassis limousines during the late 1990s, they are a little bit of motoring history and could well become collector’s items in the future”.
