The London Marathon is set to inspire millions of people to get up and do something for charity. For those daunted by running 26 miles around the capital, Nightrider London is the answer. The annual 100km charity cycle ride is taking place overnight 8 / 9 June 2013 and there are still places available. Some 4,500 intrepid cyclists are aiming to raise over £2.5 million for dozens of charities.

Cyclists will set off from either Alexandra Palace or Crystal Palace and follow a 100km moonlit route past over fifty of London's iconic landmarks. Nightrider is not a race and the route will be clearly sign-posted so participants can cycle at their own pace. Full support and back up will be provided including a well earned breakfast at the finish line.

Each cyclist is supporting a cause close to their heart. Claire Drake is cycling in memory of her sister Carolyn who committed suicide. Here is Claire's story: "I'm going to be cycling the Nightrider 100km challenge in aid of Samaritans. I will cycle with one of my brothers to raise money for a charity who provide a voice at the end of the line in someone's moment of despair. Whilst this obviously will not change what has happened, nor will it make living with the aftermath of suicide any easier; I am aiming to raise awareness of the stigma that continues to surround depression and suicide, and of course raise money for Samaritans. I miss and grieve for my best friend and my sister every day and always will."

Over 140 charities have spaces available on Nightrider. For full details and to sign up on-line visit nightrider.org.uk.

The final deadline to register is Friday 10 May 2013.

There are a limited number of free places available for journalists and celebrities who would like to take part in Nightrider.
