Croatia’s Adriatic Coast

26th April 2013 Print

Croatia’s Adriatic Coast has been confirmed as the location for the fourth series of the popular fantasy television series Game of Thrones (out in 2014). It is also the setting for Activities Abroad’s brand-new family holiday which takes place in Novigrad, a small fishing village on the Adriatic coast.

The stunning location lends itself perfectly to a multitude of activities – as well as film sets (filming is due to take place in August) – so, if you’re after more than a beach holiday, but do want a dose of sand, sea and sun, Croatia’s a good bet.

The country’s national parks provide an adventure playground. Exploring Krka National Park on a bicycle, stop to admire the spectacular Skradinski Buk waterfall which, made up of 17 separate cascades, is an impressive sight. Cool off in the 44-metre-high waterfall’s clear natural swimming pools, which are surrounded by lush green foliage. Interspersing these activities with culture, you’ll also visit Visovac Lake, from where it’s a short hop across by boat to a small and peaceful Franciscan monastery situated on a cypress tree-lined island.

Keeping all ages entertained, the tour also includes hiking in Paklenica National Park, sea-kayaking, sightseeing and souvenir-shopping in the charming city of Split, plus white-water rafting down a river bordered by forests and caves. There’s also time to try your hand at paddling on a river canoe safari: whizzing down small (very gentle) waterfalls and easy rapids, and discovering hidden swimming pools.

Comments Stephanie Eddy, Marketing Manager at Activities Abroad, “With an emphasis on proper family holidays, there’s no need for kids’ clubs or nannies on this, or any of our family holidays. Instead, we focus on action-packed itineraries which all ages can enjoy. The accommodation centres around families as well; apartments offer all the flexibility of self-catering but, attached to a beach-front hotel, families can enjoy all of the hotel’s facilities, from its restaurant and spa to an idyllic waterside terrace.”

Departing May, July and August, the Adriatic Family Adventure costs from £995 per adult and £945 per child (8-14) – two sharing or a child sharing with two adults – including flights (London), transfers, seven nights’ B&B, five other meals, activities and tuition. Regional and flexible departures available on request.
