Collaboration will offer enhanced set up options and bespoke suspension packs for customer Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 cars.

The Official Partner of the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 car, JR Motorsports Limited, has announced a collaboration with leading suspension developer Öhlins. In response to 2013 rule changes and car upgrades, engineers from both organisations will co-operate to offer teams more performance through more features and bespoke suspension components. The first of these, in response to a regulation change, is the introduction of a four-way, adjustable damper. In addition, JRM and Öhlins will create bespoke suspension packages for GT3 customers wishing to use their cars in specific events such as the VLN and Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The introduction of the four-way adjustable damper enables engineers to tune individual settings for both high speed compression, such as riding over kerbs, and low speed compression, to respond to pitch and roll. Limited testing and differing control tyres for the Blancpain Endurance Series, FIA GT Series, and the multitude of national GT championships across Europe, Russia and the Middle East, have placed a premium on the ability to fine tune the chassis effectively and in a short space of time. “The four-way adjustable damper will enable faster and finer tuning of the chassis with more set up options,” says James Rumsey, founder of JR Motorsports. “Our brief is to ensure the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 remains a highly competitive car in both domestic and international series. This technical partnership is part of our ongoing commitment to our customers to unlock every facet of performance.”

For Öhlins, it confirms its position as a proactive and flexible specialist capable of providing the suspension components and features that customers need. “We work with the finest GT manufacturers around the world,” says Öhlins Racing UK’s Chris Witter. “Partnering with an ambitious and professional constructor such as JRM and the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 programme reaffirms this. We look forward to a successful and long term relationship."

As a means of assuring competitive performance, no matter where a customer wishes to run its car, JRM and Öhlins will also develop custom packages for a specific track or series. The first of these is a VLN/N24 Pack, incorporating heavy duty dampers built to withstand the particular rigours of the Nordschleife. “The Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 is a hugely competitive car and eligible for a great number of championships, but tracks such as the Nürburgring unsurprisingly demand more,” adds Rumsey. “By offering bespoke packages, we can provide customers with the highest level of support tailored to their individual programmes.”
