One of the first new Volvo FH tractor units to go into service in the UK has joined the fleet of Brigg, Lincolnshire-based Keyo Agricultural Services Ltd (Keyo).

Keyo joint managing directors Mark van den Bos and Gary Baugh are this year celebrating 50 years of combined service in the poultry handling industry. The new FH was purchased to mark this significant business milestone.

A specially designed ‘Golden Cockerel’ logo adorns the new FH’s cab, together with the legend ’50 years serving the industry’. An eye-catching reference to the business can also be seen in the personalised number plate ‘G008 EGG’.

The new FH, a 4x2 operating at up to 40 tonnes GCW, is powered by the D13C 13-litre engine rated at 460hp. Supplied by Crossroads Truck & Bus at Scunthorpe, the FH is on Volvo’s top level Gold R&M Contract, which includes the Volvo Uptime Assurance promise.

Mark van den Bos emphasises the importance of this: “It’s a good pro-active approach. Hauliers like us value this as unplanned downtime causes major problems. The Uptime Assurance is an affirmation of Volvo’s confidence in the new FH.”

“The Gold Contract interfaces perfectly with our service regime and the way we like to operate our trucks as well,” explains Mark, adding: “We get extremely good service from Crossroads at Scunthorpe, that is tailored to our time constraints.”

Driver comfort is of paramount importance to the company, says Mark: “Our philosophy is to offer our drivers a comfortable, quality driving experience. The Volvo brand in general has always been comparable to car driving experiences and certainly this new FH has pushed it to a whole new level.”

Keyo are a very long-standing, loyal Volvo customer and Mark van den Bos has extensive experience of operating the marque since the F86 and F88 in the 1970s.

The company has periodically tried other makes of truck but, as Mark says of the new FH, “Operating other makes has provided a sounding board for opinions. However, it has reinforced our commitment and retained Volvo’s position at the top of the tree for the company and the drivers. We’ve tried the rest, but always come back to the best.”
