F1 plates take pole position at DVLA auction

Dozens of driven bidders today sent a series of Formula-One-related number plates racing out of auction.

The highly-desirable plates - including F1 FAN and F1 NUT - attracted attention from motorsport fans across the globe.

Together they sold for more than £70,000 at an auction held by DVLA at the RBS Williams F1 Conference Centre near Wantage.

The star lot was F1 PRO which sold to Birmingham-based businessman Stuart Ross for £10,200. Mr Ross will put the plate on his Ferrari F40 supercar.

Meanwhile F1 MAD went to Michael Andrew Drury - the owner of a business supplying specialist equipment to motorsport teams (who is nicknamed as 'Mad' on the Grand Prix circuit) for £6,000.

And Raj Dhuna of Hayes in Middlesex bought four plates - F1 NUT, F1 FAN, F1 ACE and F1 GPX. He will put the plates on Ferraris owned by his performance vehicle hire business.

Damian Lawson, Marketing Manager for DVLA Personalised Registrations said, "The F1 plates stole the show today but we have lots of interesting plates to come over the next two days including OO07 SPY and MY55 AMG."
