Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festiva

Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival

Departs 13 October 2013: During this three week long celebration, the pagoda's gilded gold leaf Buddha statues are taken out on procession by hundreds of rowers in a richly decorated long boat. Throughout the event, there are leg-rowed boat races where the participants from different villages compete. Taunggyi Balloon Festival

Departs 9 November 2013: The week long annual fire balloon festival at the hill station of Taunggyi attracts visitors from all over the country to celebrate with the ethnic Pa O people of this region. During the day handcrafted balloons in the shape of animals are launched into the sky cheered on by enthusiastic crowds. Later on in the evening huge pagoda shaped elongated balloons, often displaying images of the Buddha rise like giant chandeliers into the night sky making it a glorious spectacle accompanied by fireworks as well as lively Shan music and dancing.
