Befitting the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival, Silverstone Auctions has secured an exciting collection of race cars for its Classic Sale on 27th July, an integral part of the weekend’s motorsport extravaganza at Silverstone circuit.

The impressive grid includes a single-seat race car driven by a former Formula One world champion and still a possible future title contender, plus a very rare Formula 2 model with a legendary name behind it.

However, for those new to motor racing then there’s plenty else to pick from including saloon cars and classic race models. There’s even three rally cars for those more at home on the gravel than the asphalt!

Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “If ever there was a right time and place to buy a race car, whether it’s to add to an existing collection or as a first-time purchase, then our Classic Sale at the home of British motorsport has got to be it.

“As a highlight of the Silverstone Classic weekend the auction is going to have an electrifying atmosphere and will be packed with a knowledgeable and passionate audience.”

Estimated at between £18,000 to £22,000, is the 1999 Formula Renault car of Kimi Raikkonen, his first UK single seater. It benefits from a recently rebuilt 175 bhp (dyno figure) MASS engine that has seen very little use and remains eligible for F4, Monoposto, Hillclimbing or Sprints.

Meanwhile, bathed in motorsport history is a Surtees TS 15 F2 race car, estimated at between £65,000 to £75,000. Fully race prepared, this is a rare survivor of a fantastic era and is eligible to compete in all Formula 2 European single seater series throughout the world today.

Other notable race car lots include a Goodwood Revival 1959 Austin A40 Farina Mk II race car, estimated at between £25,000 to £30,000, a 1963 Lotus 23B with excellent provenance and also Goodwood Revival history, estimated at between £70,000 to £80,000, and an ultimate specification 1965 Ford Falcon FIA race car, estimated at between £80,000 to £90,000.

More modern race cars include a superb value 2005 Honda Integra-R, estimated at between £10,000 to £12,000, and an ultra-competitive 2007 Porsche 911 ‘997’ Carrera Cup Car, estimated at between £50,000 to £55,000.

The three rally cars being offered are a 1973 Ford Escort Mk I MSA/FIA RS1600 Grp 2 model, estimated at £68,000 to £78,000, a 1989 Lancia Delta Integrale Group N Rally model, estimated at between £20,000 to £25,000, and a 1995 Ford Cosworth RS Escort WRC Rally Car, estimated at between £35,000 to £40,000.

“As well as the diverse range of race cars on offer, the Classic Sale, as the name suggests, also has a large portfolio of classic road cars on offer as well,” added Nick.
