Beat the heat this summer

Family lesson on the snow

If the prospect of amusing your offspring over the summer holidays is already proving a challenge, book them into something that it is both physically demanding and cool. Very cool.

The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead, boasts the ‘best snow this side of the Alps’ and offers the closest real snow to London. Ideally situated just off the M25 and easily accessible by public transport the centre offers an impressive 160m Main Slope combined with the UK’s largest indoor Lesson Slope.

Summer courses are available which will teach and develop skills and technique in skiing or snowboarding over two consecutive days. Younger children (4-6 year olds) can learn to ski whilst older children (7-16 year olds) have a choice of skiing or snowboarding. With highly-qualified instructors holiday courses are a great way to boost snow confidence in a safe environment with children of a similar age and ability. Prices range from £49 - £85 with discounts for Members.

For the ultimate adrenalin fuelled day out the Snowsport & Activity Climb Day includes skiing, snowboarding and a session on the high ropes and climbing wall at nearby Phasel’s Wood Activity Centre. Lunch and transport between venues is included – it’s a cool treat for 7-16 year olds (cost £75).

And if they already have buckets of confidence and see themselves emulating their freestyle heroes on the snow, book them into the Junior School Holiday Half Day Freestyle Camps where highly qualified BASI instructors will soon have even the younger age range hitting kickers and rails, learning more tricks and improving their style as the week progresses. How cool is that? Available every Friday throughout the holidays (mornings or afternoons) for just £55.

Fancy a family outing that’s more about fun and excitement than style and technique, take the plunge and book a session on the Arctic Alley for real thrills and spills on real snow. No experience is necessary (provided you’re over 7 years old and at least 1.2 metres tall), just hold on tight to your ringo and enjoy the speed as you race through the tunnel, over bumps, twists and turns down the full length of the training slope.

Whatever the weather, if you are competent on skis or a board, all ages can enjoy making the best possible use of the slopes this summer with an unlimited monthly pass. At just £54 for a junior pass it’s the best possible way to keep your teenager happy for the month! Adult unlimited passes are just £69 – this summer you can slope off to The Snow Centre and ski or snowboard to your heart’s content without breaking the bank!
