Holidays where families can join in and help out without giving up all of their time to volunteering are growing in popularity. Following the success of their current active participation activities, Kwandwe Private Game Reserve, situated in South Africa's malaria free Eastern Cape, is now offering guests of all ages the opportunity to participate in, and add value to, their community projects during their stay.

Ideally suited to families with teenage kids activities are tailored according to individual and family interests and skill sets allowing younger ones the opportunity to join in too. For no extra cost apart from the donation of their time during their safari holiday guests can choose from a selection of activities ranging in length of time from just a couple of hours to a half day: Families are invited to work alongside the reserve's Mgcamabele Community assisting with gardening projects; parents can opt to give a reading lesson to children whilst teenagers share their computer skills with community centre staff; others may prefer to participate in local arts and craft activities including bead and doll making at the day care centre; toddlers are welcome to join in playtime at the pre-school and the whole family can take on older school kids in a game that transcends all ages and backgrounds, football! These immersive experiences not only enhance children's awareness and understanding of other cultures but this interaction is both educational and rewarding.

Offering exceptional game viewing and a wide variety of safari activities, Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is a haven for adults and children alike. 'Rangers in Training' packs and certification; spoor tracking adventures; 'minnow' fishing trips; treasure hunts; chocolate animal moulding and 'Big 5' cookie making competitions are just some of the activities available exclusively to their younger guests.

Further still, Kwandwe's Uplands Homestead offers a sole use accommodation option for families of up to 6 people and whose dedicated contingent of friendly staff, including a chef and butler, are always on hand to take care of their every whim. Guests staying here also enjoy the exclusive use of a 4x4 safari vehicle, ranger and tracker ensuring each family's experience is a truly personalised one. Dating back to 1905 this restored farmhouse comprises a contemporary farm style kitchen, three spacious bedrooms and cool verandas. The house also features rolling lawns ideal for active kids to run around on and a full size swimming pool as well as a host of kiddie friendly amenities such as a TV & DVD player, books & puzzles, arts & crafts kits.

Exclusive use prices start from ZAR 3618 (approx. £250) per person per night based on four people sharing and includes meals, drinks and safari activities.  Families are advised to notify Kwandwe at the time of booking of their interest in volunteering as these can be tailored to specific interests and ages - angusgillisfoundation.co.za / kwandwe.com
