First phase of new holiday homes in Cornwall ready to purchase

The Millendreath Project has launched the first opportunity to purchase a holiday residence in a new beachside retreat in Cornwall, Black Rock. The portfolio of architecturally-striking homes is an integral part of the regeneration of Millendreath holiday village, one of the most significant regeneration projects taking place in the county.

Twenty-seven contemporary holiday homes with prices from £295,000 have been made available in the first phase of development, with construction work due to start in autumn 2013.

Once a thriving resort, where generations of families enjoyed a traditional seaside holiday, Millendreath began to deteriorate in the 1990s and lose its appeal as a holiday destination. Now new investment is bringing a fresh vitality to this hidden Cornish valley, including a range of environmental improvements to the valley and beach area, and new opportunities to be part of its future.

The distinctively designed new holiday homes comprise 12 two, three and four-bedroom detached houses situated high on the eastern side of the valley, "The Rise”; and a further 15 three and four-bedroom detached properties, “The Waterfront”, which cascade down the west cliff directly above the beach. All have undisturbed views of the sea and the valley.

“The Rise” holiday homes have been carefully crafted to harmonise with the natural surroundings, both in terms of in-built sustainability measures such as sedum and green roofs, and with the placement of each home determined by the valley contours. The result is a less regimented look – with homes in natural clusters, decreasing in density the higher up they are. They will appeal to those seeking a serene beachside retreat with an emphasis on wellbeing, activity and relaxation.

Meanwhile, “The Waterfront” properties represent a contemporary take on the look of a more dense traditional Cornish fishing village and directly overlook the sandy beach and bay.

Buyers will be able to take advantage of a managed lettings programme and will be entitled to exclusive benefits such as access to the planned resort spa, which will be the centre piece of the regenerated resort. Located on the valley floor, this will offer resort residents and members a gym, spa treatment rooms, members lounge, indoor swimming pool and a high quality café/bar, looking out to extensive, landscaped terraces and the resort’s private, managed beach.

The Millendreath Project is a valley-wide improvement plan with a clear vision of the future: to breathe new life into this beautiful coastal spot and reclaim Millendreath’s status as the finest holiday resort in this part of the south Cornish coast. It is anticipated that up to 150 new homes including woodland lodges will be created during the life of the project.

This summer, a new, temporary beachside café and beach club has opened, for holidaymakers and investors in Black Rock. The café serves locally sourced, healthy food and drinks, and the beach club offers a range of activities, including stand up paddle-boarding (SUP) and surf kayaks, as well as petanque, a slack line and a slipway launching facility for small boats.

There will also be an information centre and marketing suite, where visitors can view models, artists’ impressions and plans for the different phases of the regeneration project. For more information, visit blackrockcornwall.co.uk.
