If Chris Froome’s superb performance in winning the Tour de France has got you thinking about blowing the cobwebs off your bike, then why not head for the French Pyrenees to take on the very same climbs yourself on a cut price activity holiday?

L’Ancienne Poste, a luxurious ski lodge – owned and run by English cycling enthusiast James Dealtry – located in the village of Avajan in the French Pyrenees, has cut a whopping €250 per person off week-long activity breaks for the entire month of August.

The lodge is located a stone’s throw from where stage 9 of the Tour de France was raced, providing guests with the chance to try the climb for themselves.

Bikes can be hired through the lodge, or there is safe storage for serious cyclists who would prefer to take their own bike with them.

Other activities available (at a supplement) include walking/trekking, rock climbing , parascending, quad bike riding , pony trekking , archery, water park , tree-top assault course, archery, white-water rafting , golf , canyoning and gliding. There is also an excellent public spa in the village.

A week’s stay any time from now until the end of August now costs from just €449 pp (two sharing) on a half-board basis, a reduction of €250 pp off the regular price.

The evening meal is a fine-dining four course affair including beer and wine.

Flights are not included but the area is well served by three main airports Pau, Lourdes-Tarbes, and Toulouse and can be accessed using Easyjet, Ryanair or British Airways. Allow circa £120 pp for flights (Easyjet from Gatwick).
