Surfing chefs at Six Senses, Maldives

Hit the waves in the Maldives

Surfing holiday specialist The Perfect Wave has the perfect holiday this September for those who like to surf by day and fine dine by night – a week’s holiday to Laamu Atoll in the Maldives from 11-18 September.

Accommodation is at the Six Senses resort which will be hosting TV chef and author Paul Merret, together with Anton Manganaro from London’s prestigious BAFTA 195 Piccadilly venue.

The two celebrity chefs, who are both keen surfers, will ride the waves by day before creating their signature dishes at LEAF restaurant, plus offering cooking classes at the Zen restaurant ($128 per person).

Generally, the Maldives are exposed to the same swell as Indonesia with the surf season peaking from June to September during the South-West monsoon.

The Laamu Atoll and Huvadhu Atoll are separated by the One and a Half Degree Channel and because there is not much land mass to the south of the Atolls, swells are generated by the Roaring Forties which then hit the islands.

Six Senses is the only resort on the virtually uncharted Laamu atoll, deep in the Indian Ocean. The island is of outstanding natural beauty, with powder-white sand, lush tropical vegetation and crystal clear waters.

The eco-friendly resort has 97 Beach Villas which are carefully designed to complement the outstanding natural beauty of the island. The bars and restaurants offer organic, locally grown and caught food and there’s a well- stocked wine cellar.

The seven-night stay from 11 September costs from £1672 per person which includes return transfers from Male International Airport (plane and speedboat) and 7-nights’ half-board (two sharing). Meals in the LEAF restaurant are at a supplement.
