A recent survey has shown that Lanarkshire visitors really do love it, with many finding that there is more to the area than they first thought.

The survey, carried out by IBP Strategy and Research on behalf of tourism group VisitLanarkshire, found that 96% of visitors were satisfied with their overall experience, and 50% of those interviewed found their visit even better than they expected it to be. Furthermore, the positive experience led 79% of participants to state that they would definitely return to the region.

Situated at the heart of Scotland and surrounded by beautiful Scottish countryside, Lanarkshire offers a world of choice for walkers, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts, while many high quality visitor attractions provide fun for all the family. This was confirmed by the results of the survey, as 46% of participants had chosen to visit Lanarkshire because of the choice and diversity of things to see and do; while 44% said that the many activities for children was a defining factor in their trip.

Stephen Balfour of VisitLanarkshire commented: “Lanarkshire is often described as a ‘hidden gem’, and I think these results demonstrate that, with half of those interviewed finding the experience exceeded their expectations. We’re also particularly pleased to see that visitors had cited the number of family-friendly attractions as the main draw to the region.  We pride ourselves on the wealth of high-quality visitor attractions in the area, so it is excellent to see that this is being recognised by our visitors.”

With excellent transport links to Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as being a short drive from the English border, Lanarkshire provides the perfect location for a day trip or short break.
