Fuel stranded motorists offered mobility lifeline
Motorists stranded as a result of contaminated petrol have been handed a mobility lifeline.Leading replacement vehicle company, Accident Exchange (accidentexchange.com), is providing access to like-for-like cars to those affected, with the cost of the hire being recovered from the negligent fuel supplier.
Garages are reporting shortages of the oxygen sensors damaged by the faulty fuel, leaving thousands of vehicles undriveable. The backlog in repairs, which are costing upwards of £1,000 for some drivers, is expected to take several days/weeks to clear.
“We are responding to a need highlighted by 20-30 of the franchised dealers we work with,” explained Steve Evans, chief executive of Accident Exchange. “Between them they have hundreds of drivers left stranded through no fault of their own. They already have to seek damages for the cost of the repair itself, but they have a legal right to mobility. We’re just assisting them to carry on as normal.”
In order to offer mobility, Accident Exchange require a copy of the fuel receipt (dated no more than seven days before the vehicle experienced problems), and confirmation in writing from the garage that the vehicle is immobile with suspected fuel contamination.
The lifeline is being offered under the same principles as the Association of British Insurers approved Credit Hire scheme, which assists drivers involved in non-fault accidents and keeps hire charges for the tortfeasor to a negotiated minimum level.
Affected motorists are asked to email petrol@accidentexchange.com with their contact details.
