L’Ancienne Poste launches Pyrenean ski clinics

James Dealtry, the owner and ‘le patron’ of luxury ski lodge L’Ancienne Post, located in the village of Avajan in the French Pyrenees, is launching ski clinics for the 2013/14 season.

Comments James, “I’ve noticed that there are a growing number of (predominantly) middle aged men who are deciding to return to skiing after several years away from the sport – 21 years away is the record so far – and who need a thorough ski MOT to restore confidence and regain technique.”

“Many people also tell me that they feel they never improve on their holiday and leave at the same level they were the previous year which is why I came up with the idea of the clinics; I can absolutely guarantee a distinct improvement at the end of each course.”

Dealtry is a fully-qualified ski instructor and ski race instructor, and was the first ever non-French national to be employed by the French national ski school (Ecole du Ski Français), working in Val d’Isere for 15 seasons before purchasing and renovating L’Ancienne Poste in 2006.

L’Ancienne poste is within a ten-minute drive of three ski resorts; Val Louron (which is perfect for beginners), St. Lary and Peyragudes. It is also under 20 minutes from the resort of Piau-Engaly.

The slopes of the Pyrenees are far quieter than those of the Alps making them ideal for concentrating on technique (and the lift passes are much cheaper).

The courses – which are suitable for all ages and abilities – cost from €499 per person (group sizes from 4-8 people).

This includes three-nights’ half-board ( including four-course dinner with wine each evening), personal tuition from James in English (which makes a world of difference), full video analysis and video playback de-brief once back in lodge, course notes on improvements and folder for guests to take away with them at the end of the course.

Lift passes and flights not included but the area is well served by three main airports Pau, Lourdes-Tarbes and Toulouse, which can be accessed using low cost airlines such as Easyjet or Ryanair. Transfers are available on request at a supplement.
