Yorkshire mortgage business climbs in August

17th September 2013 Print

Yorkshire Building Society is reporting a strong increase in mortgage business, with August 2013 confirmed as its busiest month for mortgage lending for almost two years.

The amount lent on mortgages completed by the Society in August was up 68 per cent on the value of completions in August 2012, and was 28 per cent higher than the value of completions in May 2012, which was the busiest month last year.

"We enjoyed an exceptionally busy month at the Yorkshire during August," said Yorkshire Building Society senior product manager Chris Smith.

"This was our busiest month for mortgage completions since November 2011, and followed an increase in business month on month since the start of 2013.

"So far this year we've had more best buy mortgages than any other lender* and have been working hard to ensure we continue to offer borrowers a wide choice of competitive products that best meet their individual needs.

"As a mutual we are focused on lending responsibly and sustainably but our aim is to help borrowers across all LTV (loan to value) levels, including first time buyers.

"This includes offering innovative products such as Yorkshire's Offset Plus, where parents or grandparents can use their savings to cut their child or grandchild's mortgage costs while retaining full and instant access to their money.
