1958 Aston Martin DB2 4 MK III

Silverstone Auctions is offering an amazing piece of family history in its sale at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show on the 15th and 16th of November in the form of a stunning 1958 Aston Martin DB2/4 MKIII.

Incredibly this fabulous Aston, estimated at between £150,000 and £170,000, has been owned by the same family for 55 years. It was purchased new by the current vendor’s late father on the 21st May 1958 for the sum of £3,242 19 shillings and 6p, which included 15 gallons of petrol at £3.12 and 6p!

The DB2/4 MK III was the final evolution of the Aston Martin DB2, launched in 1950, and a car which set the benchmark for all subsequent Astons. The example offered here is in fantastic condition, boasting a highly original interior and huge history file detailing the entire life of the car.

Guy Lees-Milne, classic car specialist, Silverstone Auctions, said: “We’re delighted to offer this wonderful piece of Aston Martin history and true family gem in our final auction of 2013. The car has been meticulously maintained and we simply couldn’t list every detail noted in its documents.”

From 1997 to 1999 the car received an extensive restoration at renowned Aston Martin specialists Jack Moss of Four Ashes Garage, Stratford-upon-Avon, including full body re-spray, chrome work and clutch reassembly. It returned to the same specialists in 2000 for a significant engine rebuild, leaving the engine note beautifully crisp.

Guy added: “It’s certainly a very special motor car, one that any seasoned Aston Martin collector or someone new to the marque would be proud to own.”

The car joins three other Aston Martins in the centenary year of the marque. Also offered at the NEC is a 1965 DB5, presented in the iconic Silver Birch colour and estimated at £280,000 to £310,000, and two more modern examples, a 1998 DB7, estimated at £16,000 to £20,000 and a 2000 DB7 Vantage, estimated at £25,000 to £30,0000.
