Wildwind sails into new waters for 2014

29th December 2013 Print

Long-established specialist sailing company, Wildwind, has launched a new winter-sun adventure programme for 2014 to the exotic paradise of Mauritius. Ideal for sailors and non-sailors alike, Wildwind Adventures’ new Mauritius holidays combine sailing with a variety of sea-sport action and land-based activities at this stunning new setting in the Indian Ocean.

Based on British Airways flights direct to Mauritius (Gatwick), and offering flexible seven, nine, 10 or 14-night itineraries, the Mauritius programme provides plenty of time to explore the island’s many attractions, as well as to enjoy the pristine crystal-clear waters and sparkling white sandy beaches.

With an impressive reputation for the quality of its sailing holidays, Wildwind has created a centre in Mauritius where top-class equipment and personal instruction is included and guaranteed. With two distinct sailing areas - the protected inner bay offering beginner-friendly light cross-shore breezes, whilst the stronger winds outside the reef are ideal for blasting and ‘sail-aways’ in controlled out-at-sea sessions - it is perfect for those looking to learn a new sport or to hone existing sailing skills.

Based in Mont Choisy, on the island’s north-west coast - home to one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in Mauritius - the adventure programme offers an eclectic mix of activities to enjoy in addition to sailing. A typical week-long holiday might include a mixture of high energy activities - from sailing and windsurfing, to stand-up paddle boarding and kite surfing – combined, of course, with beach sun-lounging or leisurely walks southwards to reach the Hindu statues set close to the ocean.

Not to be missed is an island tour on a big catamaran to discover peaceful lagoons, snorkel along the colourful coral reef, or brave a taster scuba session. Equally tempting is a trek to see cascading waterfalls in the tropical rainforests, home to an abundance of endemic flora and fauna, and a visit to the ‘Seven Coloured Earth’ - a natural phenomenon, found close to the village of Chamarel in the south-west of Mauritius.

Guests stay at the ocean-front Coral Azur Hotel, famed for its warm and welcoming service. The spacious 88 guest rooms include nine bungalows and a combination of double, twin and triple-bed rooms, all with floor-to-ceiling windows providing views towards the lush gardens or the Indian Ocean. Each room is equipped with air conditioning and cable/satellite TV. Sumptuous daily breakfasts and buffet dinners using the freshest local produce are provided, as well as beach BBQs and live entertainment.

Lead-in price: A one-week holiday in January 2014 costs from just £1,695 pp (two sharing) and includes return British Airways flights direct to Mauritius (Gatwick), seven nights’ half-board accommodation and all Wildwind Adventures’ water sport activities, including sailing, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, wakeboarding and water-skiing.

Upgrade to the Wildwind Adventures Plus programme for just £95 pp, to include a scuba-diving taster, the big catamaran day trip and a tour of the interior of the island, including a visit to the famed local rum factory to sample some ‘liquid sunshine’.

The new Wildwind Adventures Mauritius programme will operate over the following dates for 2014-15:

1 January – 30 April 2014 and 1 November – 30 April 2015
