Welsh Rarebits – widely recognised as the finest collection of country house hotels, traditional inns, elegant townhouses, gourmet bolt holes and funky boutique hotels across Wales – has added five new gems to the portfolio for 2014, taking the total membership (which is by invitation only) to 46: Tre-Ysgawen Hall Hotel & Spa on Anglesey, Porth Tycon at Abersoch, Gliffaes Country House Hotel at Crickhowell, Y Talbot in Tregaron and Trefloyne Manor in Tenby.

With a 29 year history, entry to the exclusive Welsh Rarebits collection is as strict as ever; all properties must prove that they adhere to the essential criteria of personal service, comfortable surroundings, excellent food and a warm Welsh ‘Croeso’ (welcome).

Porth Tocyn is a 17-room, family-run hotel which boasts one of the best views in Wales over the Llyn Peninsular towards the sea. Renowned for its fine cuisine, meals can be enjoyed after building up an appetite following walks on the coastal path which virtually passes the front door. Doubles from £105.

Tre-Ysgawen Hall Hotel & Spa is an imposing country house, priding itself on exceptional service and a state-of-the-art spa with a wide array of treatments plus a thermal suite and salt inhalation therapy room. With 29 bedrooms there is a choice of dining formally or in the bistro.
Doubles from £158.

Gliffaes Country House Hotel is a family-run property with 23 bedrooms in an enviable location in the Brecon Beacons National Park. A genuine retreat reached via a long, tree-lined drive, meals are prepared using local ingredients including salmon and trout caught from the nearby River Usk (the hotel is very popular with anglers). Doubles from £112.

Y Talbot at Tregaron is an historic 13-bedroomed inn which was once a meeting place for drovers before they headed over the Abergwesyn Pass. Totally refurbished, it is now a fabulous location for those seeking ‘wild Wales’. Doubles from £80.

Trefloyne Manor is a 12 bedroomed, family-owned-and-run modern interpretation of an old manor house in Tenby near the south coast. Local ingredients dominate on the restaurant’s seasonally-changing menu and the property even boasts its own 18-hole parkland golf course.
Doubles from £90.
